Does changing a web server affect SEO and Google Ads campaign results?

It happens that we change the server on which our website operates. The question of whether such a change can affect our Google Ads campaign or website SEO arises naturally.

Let's take a brief look at this issue.

Server changes and SEO and Google Ads campaigns

Changing a website's server, or moving the site to a different "machine" on the internet, can affect a Google Ads advertising campaign for several reasons. These include page loading speed, availability, and IP address issues.

Page loading speed

If the new server performs better and the page loads faster, this is definitely positive for users. Google values page load speed, so faster loading can improve ad performance because users are more likely to stay on a page that works smoothly and quickly. Internet users are generally impatient and quickly leave a page that loads slowly, so the impact of changing the server on this speed is significant.

Website availability

During the transfer from one server to another, there may be temporary problems with accessing the site. If the site is not working at the moment when the user clicks on the ad, it leads to their frustration and waste of the advertising budget, because the click does not translate into a visit.

Changing the website's IP address

Servers have their own IP addresses, which can be recognized by online tools as originating from specific locations. Changing the IP address to one from a different geographic location can affect how ads are displayed and evaluated, especially if the campaign is geographically targeted.

SEO and Google Ads

While SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is technically separate from Google Ads, both elements can influence each other. For example, if a server change negatively impacts SEO (e.g., by slowing down the website or causing frequent downtime), it can lower the overall quality score of the website in Google's eyes. This, in turn, can affect the effectiveness and cost of the advertising campaign.

In summary - changing servers can impact the effectiveness of Google Ads campaigns by affecting website speed, availability, and reputation. It is important to carefully plan and monitor such changes to minimize potential negative consequences.
